On Saturday 25th June 2011, members of the public descended upon the Vermont Hotel in Newcastle Upon Tyne to take part in our first annual abseil. The Vermont Hotel is the highest abseil point in the North East; measuring in at 200ft (that's twice the height of the Tyne Bridge!). Police Officers part of an amateur boxing club, the Blue Glove Boxing Academy, hosted a White Collar boxing Exhibition on 11th February 2011 after being contacted by distant friend and ex-colleague Darren Rathband contacted them asking if there was anything they could do to help PC David Rathband's Blue Lamp Foundation. This special event, which was sponsored by the likes of HONDA and SEAT hosted 24 Police Boxers in 12, three round bouts a long with an auction and raffle with prizes including signed boxing memorabilia from the likes of Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray and Muhammed Ali. Through hard work and sheer determination and drive the Blue Glove Boxing Academy have so far collected an incredible £34,500! More Info »
The Hails family have returned back to the UK after successfully completing their Disney challenge runs from 7-9th January 2011. Son Jamie managed to complete his 5k run in 32 minutes, mom, Pip ran her fourth half marathon in 2 hours 51 minutes and dad Steve managed to complete his eighth marathon in 4 hours 12 minutes - a huge well done to all three of you! The family said there was lots of Disney magic to help them around the courses which was well needed as the races began at 5.40am; meaning they had to be up by 3am! By using JustGiving, the family have raised a fantastic £567.
Darren Rathband, the twin brother of our founder PC David Rathband has been rallying up support for us from his friends and colleagues in South Australia over the past few weeks. Originally, Darren was due to travel over to the UK with three others in July 2011 to take part in a special event for PC David Rathband's Blue Lamp Foundation - however this was not possible, so the money that was generously donated by personnel of South Australia Police was donated to the foundation instead. Darren has also recently taken on more fundraising by auctioning off a signed t-shirt and bat from the most recent Ashes cricket competition.
This, a long with a donation from the Australian Police Journal accumulated an amazing £2450
On the 16th October a team of Police Officers from the Banbury area of Thames Valley played against Chipping Norton Rugby Football Club to raise funds for PC David Rathband’s Blue Lamp Foundation. With the half time donation bucket, a couple of generous cheques from Chipping Norton businessmen, and with raffles prizes donated by players and local businesses, a fantastic total of £820 was raised on the day. Thames Valley Police Federation has a charitable fund and they also donated £100.
On October 3rd 2010, over 1000 well-wishers including Dragons den star and BLF Patron Duncan Bannatyne joined Pc David Rathband in the blindfold "goodwill walk" to raise money for PC David Rathband's Blue Lamp Foundation.
Warm hearted members of the public along with members of PC Rathband's family and fellow police officers, turned up to show their support on the four-mile stroll along the beaches between Seaton Sluice, in Northumberland, and Blyth. Many wore fancy dress or BLF t-shirts...More Info »
Led by front man and former Emmerdale star Dale Meeks, Shake Ya Tailfeather with their mix of blues, soul and rock took advantage of their Suited & Rebooted show in South Shields to raise money for PC David Rathband's Blue Lamp Foundation. After the event staff held collection buckets and have raised a fantastic £400!
Kind hearted residents at Flint House, the Police Rehabilitation Centre, arranged a week of fundraising activities for PC David Rathband's Blue Lamp Foundation. They held several quiz nights with a couple of quizes being donated a prize of a weeks holiday in fellow officers holiday apartments! They also held a Partylite Candle sale throughout the week.
By the end of the week the Police Rehabilitation Centre raised an outstanding £902!
Northumbria Police Dog Handlers; PC's 1173 Robinson, 2934 Hall, 3409 Saunders, 8737 Bothamley, 1505 Welch a long with PC 3937 Storey and his 18 year old son Matty completed the C2C Cycle Ride from Whitehaven to Tynemouth over two days in October 2010. By collecting sponsors in aid of PC David Rathband's Blue Lamp Foundation, they have managed to raise a superb £400!
